Tenerife Airport is named Reina Sofia Airport, but is more commonly known as Tenerife South and was built in 1977 it was opened in 1978 by Queen Sofia of Spain after whom it was named. In the first year of business over one million passengers had flights passing though its terminals. Both charter and scheduled flights fly to this airport from eight airports in the UK and domestic flight company Bintas Canarias serve the Canary Islands from it.
