Actually built by the US Air Force Stansted Airport had been used by tour operators as a cheaper alternative to flights from Gatwick and Heathrow. Demand increased and Stansted was firther developed to become London’s third airport. Expansion to passenger service and the runway means its is now possible to fly to many worldwide destinations. This airport was opened in 1952 with two terminals, A & B. Then in 1998 a third larger terminal was built, terminal C so the airport could handle more passengers.
